Many of you are aware that our ministry has had a cottage industry for a number of years. Originally it was for the purpose of providing employment for impoverished women who needed to generate income for their families. Over the years, as the economy in Bangladesh has changed, our handicraft industry has become less needed by village women. However, we are always looking for avenues to teach our children skills and a work ethic.
We offer embroidered pillow cases with crocheted lace edges, tea towels, bookmarks, and greeting cards. These items make wonderful Mother’s Day, birthday or wedding shower gifts.
For the past year or so, we have allowed our older kids to earn some extra spending money if they wished by helping with the embroidery on our tea towels. We initially involved only the girls, but some of the boys felt that was unfair, and they are now involved in the industry as well.
We are in the process of updating our online inventory. Please give us a call if you have any questions: 509-586-4259.
